Kessler Topaz Meltzer & Check (“KTMC”) is proud to announce that Caroline Rifall will join the Firm as Senior Advisor – Europe beginning November 1, 2026.
With more than 25 years of experience in the financial industry, Caroline has served as a senior executive and board director and, most recently, held senior leadership roles overseeing Legal, Financial Crime Prevention and Regulatory Affairs at one of Europe’s leading asset managers. She was a member of the executive management team and served on the boards of the organization’s Luxembourg funds.
Throughout her career, Caroline has built and led teams across legal, compliance, regulatory affairs and financial crime prevention, combining deep regulatory and governance expertise with a strong understanding of commercial and strategic priorities. Her experience in aligning legal and compliance functions with the business, strengthening governance and supporting effective decision-making will bring a valuable institutional investor perspective to KTMC and its clients.
Caroline also brings extensive first-hand experience of shareholder litigation from the institutional investor side. She has been directly involved in significant securities litigation in which the investor served as lead plaintiff, working closely with counsel in evaluating cases, overseeing the litigation process and representing the interests of investors. This experience gives her a distinctive understanding not only of the legal process, but also of the governance, fiduciary and practical considerations institutional investors face when deciding whether and how to engage in shareholder litigation.
In her role as Senior Advisor – Europe, Caroline will work closely with KTMC and its institutional investor clients across Europe, contributing her experience in governance, shareholder rights and active ownership. She will also support the Firm’s investor education initiatives and provide a European institutional investor perspective as investors navigate an increasingly complex legal and regulatory environment.
Darren Check, a Partner and Head of KTMC’s Business Development Group, stated:
“I have worked with Caroline over many years and I am aware how talented and knowledgeable she is, and how seriously she takes the fiduciary responsibilities of institutional investors. I am very excited to begin working with Caroline as we continue to serve and expand our relationships with clients across Europe.”
Commenting on her new role, Caroline said:
“Institutional investors have both an opportunity and a responsibility to be active owners of the companies in which they invest. Having spent many years on the investor side, I know that shareholder litigation is not simply about financial recovery – it is also about governance, accountability and protecting shareholder rights. I have known and worked with KTMC for many years, and I am excited to bring that perspective to the Firm and to its institutional investor clients across Europe.”
Caroline has extensive board experience in regulated financial institutions, including board appointments approved by both the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority and Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF). She is a strong advocate for institutional investors as active stewards of capital and regularly engages with global investor networks, legal professionals and policymakers on governance, ESG and shareholder rights.
She is also a frequent speaker and moderator at international conferences and will be the Co-Chair of the 2027 Rights & Responsibilities of Institutional Investors conference in Amsterdam.
